Fellowship Opportunity

The Nancy Caruana Dolce Fellowship in Health Care Ethics supports a fellow in their research project while promoting the IHCE mission. This residential fellowship is designed to occur during the academic year and is open to academics and health care providers working from a range of backgrounds or areas of expertise. The fellow is supported to have protected time to work on their research project and to promote the vision and goals of the Institute. The research project needs to relate to health care ethics, broadly construed. Applicants with experience and/or expertise in health care ethics are preferred as is a strong record of publication. The selection criteria include the likelihood that the fellow will make a significant scholarly contribution to or otherwise benefit the mission of the Institute.

Specific terms of the fellowship, including financial and administrative support as well as the fellow’s explicit time devoted to promoting the work of the Institute, are flexible and will be negotiated between the successful applicant and the Fellowship Selection Committee. Applicants should describe their proposed work, how it would benefit the mission of IHCE, the time commitment the applicant would be able to make, and the financial support requested.

The application period is currently closed. Please check periodically for updates.

Fellowship Recipient

The Nancy Caruana Dolce Fellowship Selection Committee is pleased to announce its inaugural fellowship recipient, Philip Reed, PhD. Dr. Reed is a Professor of Philosophy and Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. His research interests in bioethics include end of life issues. The Committee believes Dr. Reed’s work over the 2023-2024 academic year will honor Ms. Dolce with his academic contributions and support the mission of the Institute for Health Care Ethics
